One of the things I've recently purchased on Amazon from Nigeria is a Kindle Fire HD 6 Tablet. Kindle Fire tablets are one of the best selling devices on Amazon and they are backed by the company as a device you can trust.

Amazon's Kindle Fire HD 6 is basically a 6 inch tablet that runs on a customized Android Operating system one can use to do a lot of things tablets can do such as reading books, browsing the web, stream, download and watch movies, download and install android apps, take photos, listen to and download music, take videos, do mobile chatting, read books and so on. You can even mirror a Kindle tablet to your TV to watch videos in HD and it's really a high quality device.

I recently ordered for a Kindle Fire HD 6 on Amazon and I'm soon going to receive it at my US address. I made payment with my Naira card since Amazon actually accepts payments from Nigeria as long as it's genuine but they don't ship most products directly outside the USA and that's why one needs a US shipping agency.

How I did it
=========
- Logged into my Amazon account
- Placed an order for the Kindle Fire tablet
- I chose to ship it to my US shipping address
- I made payment using my bank issued Naira debit Mastercard
- The item will be shipped within 5 working days

My bank account will be charged for it and I'll see an sms alert on my phone.

How much did it cost to purchase?
Well, since the listed price was $99 and the exchange rate used was N207.36, it cost me a total of NGN 23,428.12 using 2 day shipping but after opting for free shipping, I was able to reduce the total cost by NGN 2,898.96. The only other fees I'm expecting to pay in the future would be the international shipping cost and any custom duties applicable, if any.

What I intend to do next? I'm going to finally have it shipped to Nigeria after I've been notified by my US shipping agent that the items has been received. It would only take about 5 working days to get to Nigeria and I'll just have to pay an extra charge to them for international shipping. The package will be delivered by DHL.

This is not the first time, I'm buying a kindle or laptop from Amazon without being in the USA or using a US relative. All I really needed was my US shipping service.

Update: I've received the Kindle at my US address after 5 working days and using free shipping. One of the first things I noticed was that my package was weighing about 1.3lbs. I used the shipping cost estimator in my account and found out that it was going to cost me about $80 with DHL to Nigeria. The other final cost I'm considering is the custom duty by the time it gets to Nigeria. It's not everything I'm made to pay a duty becasue at times DHL just pays it if it's small. If there is any custom duty, it will be just a percentage of the total cost of the item(purchase+shipping) when it gets to Nigeria. I'll update on that soon. The next thing I did after estimating my cost was to initiate shipping to Nigeria from my US membership account.
